Oktoberfest

It’s Tuesday evening and I am just getting a chance to sit down and write about our glorious weekend. We had an Oktoberfest party…On Halloween. Besides the fact that it took significant quick-turn planning, the fact that I also had to combine these two “holidays” into one “theme”…let’s just say that it was challenging. Another challenge: for me to allow Todd to just plan a get-together without me getting involved, taking over, controlling details, etc. Not gonna happen. We pulled it off, though. Kids went trick-or-treating, friends brought over various German-themed foods, and some of us even wore costumes. And it was awesome.

And, it marked the end of my Total 10 diet. I am floored at how easy it was to refrain from eating some of the typical party foods that I enjoy so much. I’ve added back dairy and sugar in limited amounts. Same with alcohol. But trying to keep the wheat and starchy carbs at a minimum.

Two big takeaways this week:

  • I treated myself to my normal latte and granola bar on Sunday – got pretty bad heartburn within a couple hours. I tested that concept again this morning by having just the coffee, no granola bar. And – no heartburn. Very odd.
  • I’m also staying fuller, longer, with the foods that I’m eating. They’re not lying when they say that if you remove sugar and starchy carbs, you’ll see your cravings for those things disappear. I agree 100%. Eating them only makes you want them more. You don’t really miss them otherwise.

That’s it. Must bathe the children and unglue their eyeballs from the TV.
